Carotid Arteries-Stroke Screening
The carotid arteries internal and external, supply blood flow to the head and neck. The internal to the brain, and the external to the superficial neck, face, eyes, and larynx. Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States with over 143,579 deaths reported each year. It is also the number one cause of serious, long-term disability care in the United States. This screening is a must!

This screening will visualize both the internal and external carotid arteries, as well as the common carotid artery. However, we focus in greater detail on the internal carotid artery. The amount of fatty plaque build up and blood flow velocities will be assessed. This is done by using 2D imaging as well as color flow doppler to determine adequate blood flow to the brain.
