The thyroid is an endocrine gland located in the neck, just below the larynx. It stores hormones called T4 and T3 as well as calcitonin. Thyroid hormones regulate cellular metabolism, as well as the amount of calcium found in the blood. Normal thyroid function is essential for proper development in mental and physical growth.
